Hello! I’m Erin, the creator & author of this wonderful nutrition blog you’ve stumbled across.
I just wanted to take a minute to share some information about myself and how I ended up with a life surrounded by food.
Before taking on nutrition as my passion, I really struggled with my weight! Achieving and maintaining a healthy weight has never been easy for me and I knew I had to make some changes.
So I researched! I found diets & articles for weight loss pills and other gimmicks. I found that one study gave me one answer & then another gave me the exact opposite! I was frustrated, to say the least. And stuck in a yo-yo diet cycle… still… because none of the choppy pieces of the great food puzzle were ever helpful to me in the long term.
My jobs have always centered around food as well. I’ve worked in several restaurants: waiting tables, cooking, prep, etc…. So I was always around a lot of food and I wanted to learn more about the connection between that food and my health. I felt lost in all the hectic information and I really wanted to learn through credible sources how to separate the facts from the stories. This is when I got it in my head that I needed to go to school and earn a degree in nutrition.
As I learned and grew as a person, and as a nutrition professional, things changed. My weight changed, my health improved, my energy soared through the roof, and my career pathway changed too!
I made the jump from food service to health care and that’s where I’ve found a home for the last 12 years. I started out as Diet Office Clerk in a hospital. After college, I took a job as a Nutritionist for the WIC program. About a year later, I became a clinical Registered Diet Technician back in a hospital. And now I work in a nursing home/short term rehab facility as a Registered Dietitian.
So I’ve always been to drawn to food… just in different ways over the years. I’m definitely not done either! I’m still taking classes to learn even more. A few years ago, I passed an exam hosted by the American Council on Exercise to become an ACE Certified Health Coach, & after that, I went on to earn a certificate as a Weight Management Specialist. I have a bachelor’s degree in human nutrition, a bachelor’s degree in dietetics, and am currently working on my master’s degree in nutrition science. Even in my spare time I’m always reading, researching, questioning, & finding new & wonderful ways to teach myself & others about nutrition.
